Hi friends,
This week: we’re covering everything from artificial organs, to a battle between our favourite technologies and the inevitable reality that robots are taking over the world.
News Bites 🥪
🚺 Sylvia Kang Founds Mira To Fill Gap In Women’s Health Market - You know what they say: if you want something done well, do it yourself! From Pigeon’s observations, it's evident that an increasing number of women are taking matters into their own hands - creating and developing products specifically targeted at improving women's health. The benefit? Even more women are gaining access to better healthcare ✅
🧑⚕️Diabetes patients to be offered artificial-pancreas technology —With 300,000 people in the UK living with type 1 diabetes, artificial-pancreas technology is set to be an absolute game changer. It also begs the question, what other artificial organs are you scientists cooking up? Give Pigeon a call and we can discuss further.
4️⃣ Four Lessons On How AI Can Deliver For Healthcare Retailers — Pigeon is always banging on about how digital, when used correctly, can transform patient outcomes and healthcare as a whole. But nobody wants to listen to what the frantic bird has to say. Maybe that now a successful CEO is saying the same thing, you humans will start to pay more attention…
🤖 Increasingly sophisticated AI systems can perform empathy, but their use in mental health care raises ethical questions — It’s all starting to feel a bit too “robots are taking over the world-esque” for Pigeon. AI with real human emotions? What’s next!? Will they start producing the wittiest healthtech newsletter delivered straight to your inbox every week!? Pigeon will NOT be pleased!
🇩🇪 Berlin-based health tech Recare secures €3.2 million to ditch paperwork in discharge management — All of Pigeon’s friends working in hospitals across Germany have the same complaint - the admin that comes with the patient aftercare processes is lengthy, tedious and results in too many papercuts. Racare’s digital discharge management solution will effectively tackle those problems.
📲 Wearable AI: will it put our smartphones out of fashion? — Uh-oh, it seems like our favourite technologies are in a bit of a showdown. Not fighting exactly, but competition is brewing. Rumour has it that portable AI-powered devices will soon be capable of everything your smartphone currently does. Forgot to send an email? Simply speak it aloud and the AI-powered chatbox will handle it for you—no need to even take your phone out of your pocket. The drawback? You might attract some curious looks while talking to yourself. But hey, if it works for you, Pigeon's all for it - we all look ridiculous using AirPods in public anyway.
🩺 Is the Healthcare System Failing People with Endometriosis? — If you didn’t know, March was Endometriosis Awareness Month and highlighting a condition that remains under-diagnosed and under-treated in so many women worldwide. Of course, Pigeon believes raising awareness is great, but Pigeon also knows that actively working to improve women’s health conditions through research, policy and care is even better…
💰 Check up on the 10 most active VCs in digital health — Pigeon knows the ‘F’ word in the healthtech word has been a touchy subject (that’s ‘funding’ by the way…). If you’re looking to raise, we’d advise you to make a note of this list - it’s the lowdown on the VCs using up their dry powder*.
*For legal reasons, ‘dry powder’ is an industry term for ‘cash kept in reserve’ and we are 100% not making a joke about anything else here.
