#94 - Raises, Cutbacks, & Alan
The one-minute healthtech roundup.
This week: European raises continue despite difficult market conditions, outstanding sexual health, and why lexicon matters* when describing telehealth.
News Bites 🥪
☕️ Moka.care raises €15m Series A for its employee mental health platform - Making a moka-ry of anyone saying this is a difficult investment market. Yes. Yes, that is the standard of jokes this week.
🕺 Alan raises €185 million - Pigeon’s father-in-law is called Alan, and for one, brief, beautiful, moment Pigeon thought all its problems were solved. Unfortunately, this is a French startup, Alan, that builds health insurance products from scratch, and is of no financial use to Pigeon whatsoever.
📖 Providers must choose their words carefully when pushing for telehealth expansion- The terms telehealth, telemedicine, virtual care and digital health are often used interchangeably, but that doesn’t mean they should be.
❤️🩹 Online sexual health clinic rated outstanding - A good idea, well-executed. Top marks to SH:24.
🇸🇪 KRY cutting 10% of staff - Swedish telehealth scale-up KRY are cutting 10% of their roles. KRY, who’s UK subsidiary LIVI, may be affected, raised a $300 million Series D in April 2021 that valued it at $2 billion. We’ve already lost Saab, and H&M shares aren’t setting the world on fire right now. Can someone check in with IKEA, see if they’re alright?
💾 Northern Care Alliance NHS FT experiencing IT disruption - Pigeon’s not entirely sure that ‘Hospital IT system doesn’t work’ qualifies as news.
👀 Using AI to spot post-surgery complications - Paper in The Lancet, funded by The Dutch Cancer Society, finds that AI can be used to spot which patients will likely have complications post surgery.
What to Listen to 🔊
📔 Strategies on Breaking Into New Global Health Tech Markets - A pleasant train ride through the do’s and don’ts of global market expansion. Calling at Pitfalls Central, G2M Strategy Junction, and Growth Acceleration Parkway.
🗺 Head of Product, Doctify - Like TripAdvisor for clinicians and services, Doctify’s product looks and works great. Can you make it greaterer? Could you make it the greaterest?
🗂 Chief of Staff, Birdie - Chief of Staff seems to have replaced Strategy Director as the on-trend name for this role.
🛠 Head of Engineering, DrDoctor - Described as a “high impact role”, as opposed to lobbing a stale bap through a window, which is a high impact roll.
*Lexicon Matters is also the name of Pigeon’s avant-garde poetry jam quintet.
